Consultation has concluded

Bain Park is a significant recreational space located in the centre of Wauchope’s CBD. Council will be embarking on a series of comprehensive community engagement activities in order to prepare a Master Plan to guide future development. Widespread community engagement and participation is vital to ensure all members of the community have the opportunity to have their say and provide feedback on the development of the plan.

UPDATE:  As a result of community feedback, the Camden Haven's new play space will not be constructed in Laurie Street, Laurieton. To ensure the play space reflects the community's needs, Council will propose potential sites and invite feedback during a 28-day public exhibition from 15 August to 12 September 2025.

An exciting play space is coming to Laurieton - and we'd love your input. This is your opportunity to help create a leisure precinct that will be enjoyed for many years to come. Think a nature-inspired hub for people of all ages and abilities that connects with Laurieton War Memorial Baths, the Beach 2 Beach Pathway and the picturesque Camden Haven River.

The new play space aligns with Council's Places to Play Plan, which guides the development, management and sustainability of public spaces across the region.

Proudly funded by a $302,250 grant from the NSW Government’s Local Small Commitments Allocation Grant Program our vision includes:

  • A flying fox with all abilities swing
  • Climbing structure
  • Two trampolines (inclusive)
  • Balance trail with logs, steppers and beams
  • Double slide
  • Animal rocker (inclusive)
  • Double bay swing and nest seat (inclusive)
  • Xylophone (inclusive)
  • Park furniture (inclusive)
  • Landscaped drainage path
  • Proposed BBQ area
  • Mature shade trees (saplings)

What makes this a regional play space?

Laurie Street has been identified as a regional play space for the Camden Haven community, which means it will cater to the wider community, attracting visitors from across the region and accommodating key recreation needs.

According to Council's Places to Play Plan a regional play space features enhanced play equipment, complemented by supporting infrastructure such as parking, accessible public toilets, seating and shelters and may also include outdoor courts, bike tracks and BBQs. These spaces are designed to encourage longer visits, with users typically staying for 90 minutes or more.

It is important to note that this will be a staged project, and public toilets and sandstone steps are not proposed at this stage.
